Newcastle Hebrew Congregation

Join us every Friday night ( Winter 6-7 pm and Summer 6:30-7:30 pm) for an uplifting Kabbalat Shabbat service.

On the third Saturday of each month, a Shabbat Minyan is held at 9.30am.

For Festival Services, check the events calendar.

The Synagogue is located at 122 Tyrell St, The Hill 2300 NSW.

Founded in 1905, the Newcastle Hebrew Congregation is the oldest synagogue in Australia that is still functioning on a weekly basis.

Six days a week we work, eat, sleep, exercise . . . and we also pray. Then, on the seventh, we pause to reconnect with the Creator. Without the pressures and distractions of the workweek, we become more contemplative and focused—an opportunity for introspection and connection.

As evening descends on Friday, we greet the holy day with Kabbalat Shabbat (“Welcoming the Shabbat”) in the Sydnagogue. The service is accompanied by explanations and guidance by Rabbi Yossi so no prior knowledge is needed. Feel free to call ahead and RSVP or just walk right on in - everyone is welcome!
